The Reason Why Art Buchwald is awesome

Art Buchwald was dying. He had kidney failure, so he put a halt to his dialysis treatments and checked himself into a hospice where he could plan his funeral his own way, and die with dignity.
There, he started documenting his death in his newspaper column. His column covered topics that ranged from his life insurance policy, to the best death scenes in the movies, to the best kinds of caskets. It was a damn funny column, and earned him a lot of attention.

Streams of people came to pay their last respects, and strangely enough, all the attention seemed to help him to start getting better, he even checked himself out of the hospice for a while to take a vacation.

He has since passed away, but it's awesome that this guy managed to enjoy all of his life, (even the end) having a great time. He even managed to live about two years longer than his doctors had predicted.

Two pretty happy and enjoyable years, at that.

He was even so happy and doing so well that Mike Wallace called him a fake—he said he was suspicious that Buchwald may have made up the whole, 'dying from kidney failure story' for publicities sake.

It does show that some of making it through an illness, whether you recover from it or not, is at least in part, your attitude.

Buchwald didn't start perking up until he began feeling better about dying, and began looking at it more objectively, and with humor.

There is also the story of that guy who had a full recovery from his cancer by using large doses of vitamin C and laugher.

I guess the guy was told that he had terminal cancer, so he holed up in a motel room, watched funny movies, and took vitamin C.

I don't remember if he went for chemotherapy treatments—I think the doctors had told him that he was terminal, so they didn't even bother trying to save him with conventional medicine.

However, he still turned his 'disease' around and got all better.

So there you go, some of getting better, and remaining healthy, has got to be in your attitude.
I'm sure some of it is fate too, when it's your time to go it's your time, but some of it has got to be how you look at things, and a willingness to accept what you have, change what you can, and try to have a good time doing it either way.

Oh, and vitaminc C. You can't forget that
